Visualization of N-Dimensional Databases Using Parallel Coordinates
نویسنده
چکیده
Conventional methods of exploratory data analysis employ tools ranging from two and three dimensional scatterplots and descriptive statistical summaries to multivariate methods employing factoring and model formulation. Much of this kind of effort is directed toward distilling the important parameters and observations from noisy, and sometimes sparse, databases. Parallel coordinates provides a method for examining the relationships between variables in the context of the complete set of observations. Unlike conventional graphical methods. the'parallelcoordinate method is not restricted to three dimensions or four if one considers animation. Since parallel coordInate representations are based on the methods of projective geometry, fundamental relationships such as pos~ive or negative correlations between variables can be discerned directly from graphs in a manner similar to conventional scatterplots but for more variables simu~aneously. This results in a more compact and efficient tool for browsing and familiarizing onese~ w~h a complex database w~h practical benef~s in quality assurance and analysis of databases. Introduction

A Multi-Dimensional Data Visualization Tool for Knowledge Discovery in Databases
This paper describes a multi-dimensional visualization (MDV) technique, a refined and improved form of a computational geometry method known as parallel coordinates, that has been realized by WinViz. It shows how MDV differs significantly from parallel coordinates as originally conceived by Alfred Inselberg. The paper also discusses WinViz's underlying design considerations. A primary principle...
متن کاملVisualizing the Behavior of Higher Dimensional Dynamical Systems
In recent years scientific visualization has been driven by the need to visualize high-dimensional data sets within high-dimensional spaces. However most visualization methods are designed to show only some statistical features of the data set. This paper deals with the visualization of trajectories of high-dimensional dynamical systems which form a Ln n data set of a smooth n-dimensional flow....
متن کاملVisualization of Large, Time-Dependent, Abstract Data with Integrated Spherical and Parallel Coordinates
Parallel coordinates is one of the most popular and widely used visualization techniques for large, high dimensional data. Often, data attributes are visualized on individual axes with polylines joining them. However, some data attributes are more naturally represented with a spherical coordinate system. We present a novel coupling of parallel coordinates with spherical coordinates, enabling th...
متن کاملUsing Penalized Regression with Parallel Coordinates for Visualization of Significance in High Dimensional Data
In recent years, there has been an exponential increase in the amount of data being produced and disseminated by diverse applications, intensifying the need for the development of effective methods for the interactive visual and analytical exploration of large, high-dimensional datasets. In this paper, we describe the development of a novel tool for multivariate data visualization and explorati...
متن کاملMLMD: Multi-Layered Visualization for Multi-Dimensional Data
Visualization and data mining techniques have for long been laying emphasis on high-dimensional data processing. In this paper, we propose a multi-layered visualization technique in 3D space called MLMD with its corresponding interaction techniques, for visualizing multi-dimensional data. Layers of point based plots are stacked and connected in a virtual visualization cube for comparison betwee...
